Blooming and nectar secretion of Nepeta grandiflora Bieb. under the condition of lead excess

Journal of Apicultural Science. Volume 46, Issue 1, Pages 59-65, ISSN (Print) 1643-4439
Influence of lead on flowering abundance and morphological traits of flowers and pollen grain structure of Nepeta grandiflora Bieb. (Lamiaceae) was studied. The weight of nectar secreted and sugar content of nectar were compared as well. Lead was added as PbCl2 at 0 and 1000 mg • kg-1 in a pot experiment with Nepeta grandiflora plants. Significant reduction was observed in the number of flowers, calyx, corolla and anthers as well as in the size of pollen grains that showed shape and size polymorphism,. Nectar weight that was secreted by flowers in the lead treatment was less by 30%. No significant differences in sugar content of nectar which was around 70% were found.
